These studies are taught in at least five semesters and a maximum of eight. In that period students must complete their doctoral dissertation, and successfully defend it in open examination within 5 years from registration to the PhD Program in Law.

• Conduct legal research targeted to solving the problems of the region, focusing primarily on the research considered to be of major importance for the State of Chiapas, as democratic governance, institutional reforms, fundamental rights and local governments.
• Promote the advancement of legal science through teaching, research and extension of knowledge.

• Connect Chiapas’ society with legal science to generate a constitutional culture through the promotion and organization of training, dissemination, socialization and application of legal knowledge.
• Establish cooperation agreements with public and private organizations, in order to promote the study, transfer and application of legal science for regional development;
• Promote academic collaboration networks that encourage mobility of faculty and students with academic peers in various local, national and international institutions dedicated to the study and research of legal science;
• Contribute to the enrichment of national research by professional and academic training of graduates.
• Develop Lines of Research that address various issues related to the legal sciences from local and national perspectives.
• Disseminate and promote knowledge in the field of law.

Graduates of the PhD Program in Law have solid technical and methodological training, which will allow them to perform constructively in the science of law. Graduates are competent to conduct investigations that contribute in immediate, direct and innovative ways in the social sciences and humanities, especially in the field of law, using the analysis of their own professional and academic experience as a starting point, meeting the rigors of scientific method, which allows them to:

• Identify the theories underlying legal science.
• Apply research methods in the legal space.
• Organize and evaluate legal works, for creating and implementing the law.
• Develop techniques to investigate legal science, for the creation and application of knowledge.
• Researchers and academics specialized in different areas of the law, with the ability to develop both in Mexico and abroad.
• Generate a critical thinking in the analysis of legal and social phenomena.
• Develop an interest in teaching and research.
